Movie Review #3: Never Back Down.

Never Back Down is a 2008 American martial arts film directed by Jeff Wadlow and starring Sean Faris, Amber Heard, Cam Gigandet, and Djimon Hounsou.


A frustrated and conflicted teenager arrives at a new high school to discover an underground fight club and meet a classmate who begins to coerce him into fighting.

Jake Tyler (The angry teenager) moves with his mom and little brother to a new city and Jake moves to a new high school after hitting the spotlights back at his old school in the football team.

Jake discovers an underground MMA brawling club that is called The Beatdown.

Jake meets a new girl named Baja and eventually he falls in love with her; in the end it turned out that Baja is dating a professional MMA fighter who is also a student at the highschool; his name is Ryan Mcarthee.

A spoiled rich bully who provokes Jake to fight him at a party in order to humiliate Jake in front of everyone.

Baja breaks up with Ryan and falls in love with Jake; he then meets a new friend who introduces him to an MMA combat gym in order to learn the modern style of Mixed Martial Arts.


Amber Heard. (Plays the role of Baja Miller)

Amber Laura Heard is an American actress and model. Born and raised in Texas, she made her film debut in a minor supporting role in the sports drama Friday Night Lights, followed by a series of other small roles in television and film.

Sean Faris. (Plays the role of Jake Tyler)

Sean Hardy Faris is an American actor, model, and producer. He is known for his roles as Jake Tyler in Never Back Down, Kyo Kusanagi in The King of Fighters, and Rick Penning in Forever Strong.

Born: March 25, 1982 (age 38 years), Houston, Texas, United States

Cam Gigandet (Plays the role of Ryan Mcarthee)

Cam Joslin Gigandet is an American actor whose credits include a recurring role on The O.C. and appearances in feature films Twilight, Pandorum, Never Back Down, Burlesque, Easy A, Priest, and The Magnificent Seven. He also starred in the CBS legal drama series Reckless.

Born: August 16, 1982 (age 37 years), Tacoma, Washington, United States

Djimon Hounsou (Plays the role of Jean Rocqua; Jake’s MMA coach)

Born April 24, 1964 (age 56 years), Cotonou, Benin


I personally watched this movie three times cuz it’s amazing; it’s story has a dramatic yet a badass background. Not to forget the wonderful romance between Jake and Baja that made me at some points cry.

Also, for those who want to learn more about MMA; this movie will tell you everything about it.


Absolutely worth watching!!!!
